Paragraphs Make a Document

I learned by example to do “word studies” on isolated words. I put “word studies” in quotes, because the studies contained just about every word study fallacy D.A. Carson decries in “Exegetical Fallacies.” This is a basic point, but one lost on many church-goers: Words make sentences, sentences make paragraphs, and paragraphs make a document. If you want to study a document, you usually need to decompose it to its constituent paragraphs and see how the pieces fit together.
